“Ayayoru,” in the Makua language, means “Us for Us” and expresses an idea of community collaboration and reliance. Members of a community exist interdependently and are ultimately one.
Ayayoru Carvings and Tours was founded in December 2013, by Moris Damian in collaboration with non-profit workers in Mtwara, Tanzania. Ayayoru is a locally owned and operated tourism business and collaborative, started by Moris as an effort to get Mtwara locals involved in the tourism sector as Mtwara town and region experience sudden, rapid growth due to the discovery of extensive natural gas fields.
So come by to support locals carvers, artists, and craftsmen, or to learn about and engage local culture, history, and environment through one of our trip options!
